This superbly crafted one-act piece has been given a loving production at the Classic.
Although Jessie Mae is a rather hissable character on the surface, she is not entirely devoid of humanity, and Chambers does splendid work revealing both aspects of her personality.
Alison Bridget Chambers was excellent as Jessie Mae, Carrie's entitled and dominating daughter-in-law. Chambers brought welcomed energy and tension to the show. Her fights with Carrie were rightfully hard to watch and all too real. The conflicts brought about were accurately depicted in her expert facial expressions. It was hard to keep your eyes off of her in a scene; she drew you into the story and begged empathy from her point of view, even if it wasn't entirely deserved.
Passengers on a westbound bus find themselves delayed by a blizzard which has closed the highway. They find refuge at Grace’s Diner, a greasy spoon located some 40 miles outside of Kansas City. There’s Cherie (Alison Bridget Chambers), a self-styled “chanteuse” who dreams of stardom but can’t seem to rise above her modest roots.
Chambers is appealing as the idealistic but easily hurt Cherie.
